our garden story
Located between a low-income residential community and a main business district in town, there are approximately 50 – 60 people who walk past our property, going to work / shop, each day.
Many families in our community travel by foot, but we are quite a ways away from the nearest grocery store, making the simple act of accessing fresh, healthy food a daily struggle.
Last summer, we grew a small row of vegetables along our fence row to explore the neighborhood’s interest in a community garden.
We hung a FREE for all sign, and they loved it!
This year we plan to have a larger community garden, planted the traditional way… in the ground!
In addition to growing vegetables and herbs for our community, we will gift a potted seedling (or two) to 100 members of our community to encourage them to begin a vegetable garden of their own!
We believe that installing the Seeds Of Love Community Garden will not only provide a source of fresh produce while fostering a sense of community, but also give us a chance to share hands-on experience with sustainable / organic practices.
Thank you for investing in our future!
